Our ward had the fantastic opportunity to put on a Luau for our community. We have a Tongan sister missionary in our ward currently and she has a cousin in the Vancouver/Portland Polynesian ward...so we were able to have the help putting this Luau together with our Polynesian brothers and sisters our Luau was a success
These were the traditional Fire dancers...SUCH a neat dance.
Our sweet sister Anitema. She has been such a blessing to our Ward.
I heard many different counts, but I think there were somewhere around 300 people there.
I cannot remember the name of this dance but it is a traditional Hula. SO beautiful and the young women and YW leaders had a great time learning and performing it.
Me, Sister Anitema and all our sweet young lady's.
The young men performed the "Haka" (look it up on You tube it is a neat dance) it is the Chant the warriors do before going into battle.
This is my favorite picture of the evening. For two reasons: 1. If you look in the background you can see the decorations that we worked so hard on, the "VOLCANO" which was a water fall with red dye, red cellophane and dry ice :) also my palm trees made from balloons. 2. if you will notice thew lovely..well person walking across you will see our Mayor of Silverton, the ever popular stu rasmessen the first cross dressing mayor in all the US. lol
